Strong Main Streets Build Strong Local Economies.
Main Street revitalization generates momentum that extends far beyond a single storefront or project. These results demonstrate the power of sustained, locally driven revitalization to attract investment, support entrepreneurship, strengthen property values, and create new opportunities throughout Alabama communities.
Giving Entrepreneurs the Tools to Start, Strengthen, and Grow.
Small businesses are at the heart of every thriving Main Street district. Through initiatives such as AL SPARK, Main Street Alabama connects local business owners with education, marketing resources, funding opportunities, and practical tools designed to help them succeed.
In 2025 alone, 210 businesses received marketing grants through the Illuminate program, while the Bright Ideas Pitch Competition awarded $370,000 to businesses ready to invest in new equipment, technology, marketing, inventory, and growth.
By investing in local entrepreneurs, Main Street Alabama helps create stronger businesses—and stronger downtowns.

Turning Local Ideas Into Visible Community Improvements.
Revitalization happens one project at a time. Main Street Alabama helps communities transform ideas into action through technical assistance, strategic planning, training, and direct investment in projects that strengthen their districts.
Designated programs receive project grants supporting improvements ranging from public art, façade enhancements, and wayfinding to lighting, green spaces, streetscape improvements, technology, public amenities, and business support.
Combined with more than hundreds of thousands of volunteer hours recorded since 2014, these investments show what is possible when local leadership, community participation, and strategic resources come together.
