Since its beginnings in 1826 and its incorporation in 1837, Columbiana, Alabama has distinguished itself as the ideal Southern small town.

Located in the heart of Shelby County, just a short drive southeast of Birmingham, Columbiana has easy access to I-65, Highway 280, and the beautiful waters of Lay Lake.

Columbiana has served as the county seat since January 13, 1832 when it was designated by the Alabama Legislature. Many county government offices like the Shelby County Board of Education, Shelby County Courthouse, Shelby County Sheriff’s Office, and the main offices for the Shelby County Libraries call Columbiana home.

Columbiana lets you have a taste of the simpler life while providing activities and events for everyone in the area.
